How are Veneers Different From Fillings or Crowns?
Q: I am interested in learning more about Porcelain Veneers. How are they different from Filings or Crowns?
A: A composite resin
filling is used when only a small amount of tooth structure needs
replacing or repair. A full crown is indicated when a tooth has
had root canal treatment or when a substantial amount of the entire
tooth structure ( enamel ) has been lost. A porcelain veneer is
indicated when a portion of the front surface of a tooth needs a * face
lift *.
Q: How are Porcelain Veneers Created?
A: Similar to resin
bonding procedure, veneers are attached directly to the existing tooth
structure. We take an impression of your tooth to make an exact
replica. During your appointment, we treat your tooth with a mild
conditioning solution. Before the veneer is placed, we apply a
tooth-colored liquid bonding material, which helps the veneer adhere to
your natural teeth!

The Facts About Porcelain Veneers: What is important to know?
In this section, we will be looking at porcelain veneers, what they are, how to know if they are for you, and most important, what to expect when you have this procedure done.
First, let's take a look at
what they are: Tooth veneers, the thin porcelain layers placed on
the front of teeth, can be done on just one or a number of teeth.
Generally people have tooth veneers done on their front teeth. These
are obviously the teeth that people notice the most and show when you
smile.
What is Involved in getting Tooth Veneers?
If
you are getting veneers fitted to your teeth it will take two dental
visits (after consultation). The time of each visit will depend on how
many teeth you are getting capped. Each tooth veneer is made to fit
exactly over your own tooth and time has to be taken to ensure the most
natural fit.
The first visit generally involves removing a thin layer of enamel from your teeth. This is done so that the veneers will fit and look natural. If enamel
were not removed the tooth veneers would feel bulky and uncomfortable.
After an impression of your teeth
has been made on the first visit, the second visit will involve fitting
the veneers. Each tooth veneer is bonded to the front and biting edges
of the natural tooth. When completed the new look will be stronger and whiter!
